The Asian elephant "Xin Wish" was born in Kunming Zoo on June 10, 2020. He lives with his mother elephant and can normally eat fruit, sugar cane, elephant grass and other feeds, and has no recorded disease.
On March 3, the breeder observed that "Xinyuan" was in poor spirits, less activity, loss of appetite, etc. in the outdoor activity field. The veterinarian checked in time and took oral drug treatment after the initial diagnosis.
On March 4, "Xinyuan" did not improve, and appeared drowsiness, no appetite, no defecation and urination, etc. The veterinarian collected venous blood for physiological and biochemical tests, and administered intramuscular injection twice.
Kunming Zoo invited experts from Yunnan Agricultural University to conduct a consultation at 20:30, and found that "Xinyuan" had unstable standing, leaning against the wall, flushing of the conjunctiva, weak second heart sound, swelling and cyanosis of the tongue, and no ability to swallow. Preliminary blood routine and biochemical test results were diagnosed as myocarditis.
When preparing for further treatment, "Xinyuan" suddenly developed symptoms of shock, and the veterinarian immediately carried out on-site rescue and artificial cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
At 23:40, "Xin Wish" died after the rescue failed.
According to the pathological examination of professional institutions, the results showed that "Xinyuan" had extensive heart myocarditis with myocardial hemorrhage, and caused cardiopulmonary failure.
At present, blood samples and nasal swab samples have been sent to third-party institutions for further pathogen testing.
Kunming Zoo said that since its birth, "Xinyuan" has been cared for and loved by many caring people, and its company has brought warmth and happiness to the citizens.
