If a child under the age of 15 becomes brain dead, organ donation is possible with the consent of the family, but national guidelines stipulate that it should not be done for children suspected of being abused. I am.

However, although the possibility of abuse is low, it cannot be completely denied, so there are cases where organ donation is not performed. We have put together a proposal that asks you to make the most of your family's will.

The recommendations were put together by the Organ Transplant Committee of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare held on the 10th.

Organ donations from children who have been determined to be brain dead are not provided if there is a suspicion of abuse in national guidelines to prevent the abused child from becoming an organ donor.

However, there were at least eight cases in the five years before the adulthood, when the criteria were unclear and the possibility of abuse could not be completely denied even if the family was willing to provide it.

For this reason, in the proposal, if there is no notification to the child guidance center, etc., it is judged that there is a low probability that the abuse has occurred, and the criteria for not donating organs and suspecting abuse is "notification to the child guidance center, etc." "When doing", etc., I asked for clarification.

In response to this, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare hopes to revise the guidelines by the end of next month.

Mitsuaki Isobe, the director of Sakakibara Heart Institute, who serves as the chairman, said, "There was a lot of confusion in the clinical setting, and there was a problem that the family was willing to provide it, but they took the opportunity, but clarify the criteria. So, I want to be able to prioritize the intentions of my family and the decisions I make on the spot. "
