At around 5:55 pm on March 9, the mobile phones of many Hong Kong citizens suddenly vibrated strongly and issued a high-volume alarm sound. The alarm indicated that Queen Elizabeth Hospital would be set up as a special hospital for patients with new coronary pneumonia from March 9. Designated hospitals, urge the public not to go to the hospital for medical treatment.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, announced on the morning of the 9th that Queen Elizabeth Hospital has become a designated hospital for patients with new coronary pneumonia and will no longer treat non-new coronary patients.

It is reported that this "emergency warning system" was established by the Hong Kong SAR government in 2020. It does not need to be operated by telecommunications companies or SIM cards, but is an independent system that can directly transmit alerts to citizens' mobile phones.

A reporter from China News Agency checked the official website of the Hong Kong Communications Authority and found that the list of mobile devices that can support receiving "emergency alert system" messages includes most mobile phone brands and different mobile phone models.
