The number of patients hospitalized with a Covid-19 diagnosis continued to drop on Thursday, but the number of contaminations is rising, a trend observed for several days, according to daily figures published in the evening by the health authorities.

Hospitals had 21,287 patients on Thursday (including 1,122 admitted in the past 24 hours), compared to 21,509 patients on Wednesday and 23,175 seven days earlier.

The critical care services, where the most seriously affected people are treated, received 1,928 patients (including 121 who arrived in the last 24 hours), against 1,962 on Wednesday and 2,231 the previous Thursday.

The number of new positive cases stood at 74,818, according to Public Health France, against 60,225 a week ago.

The seven-day average, the most faithful witness to the real trend of recorded contaminations, stood at 58,335 cases against 56,251 cases on Wednesday and 50,646 a week ago. 100 Covid-19 patients died in hospital in 24 hours, bringing to 139,880 the number of deaths since the start of this epidemic, just over two years ago.

Stagnant vaccination

Jean Castex announced last week the end of wearing a mask, except in transport, and the suspension of the vaccination pass, from March 14.

The corporate health protocol will also be lifted on Monday.

As for vaccination, it is stagnating: 54.24 million French people have received at least one dose (i.e. 80.5% of the total population), 53.3 million are fully vaccinated (79.1% of the population) and nearly 39.25 million received a booster dose, according to the Directorate General of Health.
