The Haute-Savoie prefecture placed the Lake Geneva basin on orange pollution vigilance and the Arve valley on yellow vigilance on Wednesday.
Several measures have been taken in these areas to limit the concentration of fine particles, reports France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
The maximum authorized speed is lowered by 20 km/h or capped at 70 km/h in the basin, depending on the initial limitation.
Vehicle emissions controls will be tightened by the prefecture.
The training or test times for motor sports competitions are also reduced.
In the dwellings, it is forbidden to use individual supplementary or amenity heaters using wood.
A lowering of the temperature of the heaters to 18°C is requested.
Lower heating
In the Arve valley, the prefecture only communicated recommendations.
Vulnerable people should limit intense physical activity and stay away from areas of heavy car traffic.
It is advisable to use gentle modes of transport and to avoid activities that generate pollutants or dust.
