A study reveals .. the octopus lived before the dinosaur

Scientists in the US state of Montana have discovered the oldest known ancestor of an octopus, in a fossil that is nearly 330 million years old.

The researchers concluded that the ancient creature lived millions of years earlier than previously thought, which means that the octopus arose before the age of the dinosaurs.

The scientists said: The fossil is up to 12 cm long, with 10 limbs, each containing two rows of pipettes.

It is noteworthy that modern octopuses have 8 limbs.

The ancient octopus probably lived in a shallow tropical ocean bay.

"It's extremely rare to find soft tissue fossils in only a few places," said Mike Viccione, a zoologist at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History who was not involved in the study.

This is a very exciting discovery.

It pushes the dynasty much further back than previously known.”
