The revelations of the book
The Gravediggers
triggered a wave of indignation.
And a beginning of an answer.
The 7,500 French retirement homes (public, private for profit or associations) will all be checked over the next two years, the government announced yesterday.
In Calvados, the regional health agency (ARS) of Normandy has already pushed doors.
Those of the Ehpad, Les Opalines, in Moutiers-en-Cinglais, south of Caen, which belongs to the Bridge group.
The result of the "joint inspection carried out by the ARS and the department", unveiled on Tuesday, reports "serious dysfunctions" in the areas of "governance", "quality and safety of care" and “accompaniment and respect for the rights of the people received”.
Admission of new residents has been suspended
The accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people has been placed under provisional administration for a period of six months and the admission of new residents has been suspended.
Everything would have started "from an unexpected check", according to the ARS.
The visit to the premises and the interviews conducted with around twenty professionals and families of the residents revealed a series of shortcomings.
Unsuitable rooms, insufficient linen hygiene, premises at risk with free access to residents, organizations that do not guarantee the continuity of the presence of nursing staff, shortcomings in the coordination of care and in their traceability, major failures in the circuit of the medication…
The Bridge group, which has around thirty establishments in France, denies in
Ouest-France
neglecting the reception of residents, and points to "the shortage of manpower" which would "severely" slow down the recruitments in progress to strengthen the 'medical team.
