Gaolin Village is located in Longhu Town, Ding'an County, Hainan Province. There are paddy fields in front of the village and green hills in the back, with beautiful scenery. It was the hometown of Zhang Yuesong, the only flower in Hainan in the Qing Dynasty, and has the reputation of "three generations of soil and water".
Gaolin Village was built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, about 300 years ago.
Most of the village's residences are buildings of the Qing Dynasty and have rich historical and cultural relics, especially the provincial cultural relics protection units - Zhang Yuesong's former residence, Zhang's ancestral hall, as well as the sun and moon well, ancient official road, hump wood carvings, plaques, Zhang Yuesong's handwriting is inscribed with sunflower wood couplets and so on.
In 2010, Gaolin Village was rated as a famous historical and cultural village in China, and in 2013, it was listed as the first batch of traditional ancient villages in the country.

According to historical records, in the 14th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1809), Zhang Yuesong High School was ranked third in the first grade of the Enke Palace Test, becoming the only third-ranking scholar in the history of Hainan. Governor etc.
He is known for his calligraphy and painting skills, and is praised by the world as "Writing Jue", together with Qiu Jun, "Reading Jue", Hai Rui, "Zhong Jue", and Wang Zuoqi, "Yin Jue" as "Four Talents of Qiongzhou".
"My ancestor Zhang Yuesong was entrusted by Lin Zexu to assist in the handling of the smoking ban in Leizhou and Qiongzhou." Zhang Dangquan, the seventh-generation descendant of Zhang Yuesong, is very familiar with Zhang Yuesong's history. For more than 20 years, he has not only been obliged to maintain the ancient cultural relics of his ancestors in the village, but also As a volunteer guide, he tells the history of Zhang Yuesong's family for tourists and scholars who come here every day.

According to Zhang Dangquan, "one side's three generations of fame and fame" refers to Zhang Yuesong and his second son Zhang Zhongyan as a jinshi, his fourth son Zhang Zhongxiu, and his grandson Zhang Xiongxiang, who is also one of the five talented women in Hainan.
The family with three generations of fame is rare in the history of Hainan, and can be called "the first family in Hainan".
In order to better inherit and carry forward the history and culture of Gaolin Village, since 2015, Ding'an County started the renovation project of Gaolin Temple and Zhang Yuesong's former residence. Village living environment.
The entire village was restored in accordance with the principle of "repairing the old as the old", retaining the original stone road and ancient dwellings as much as possible to maintain the simple and natural village appearance.

At present, there are two former residences of Zhang Yuesong in the village. One is the ancestral home where he was born. Today, there is only one main house. There are lilies and smiling flowers planted by Zhang Yuesong on both sides of the courtyard.
"The plaque 'Rong'an Mountain Pavilion' on the gate of the former residence was inscribed by Zhang Yuesong himself." Zhang Dangquan said that Zhang Yuesong had not bought any more property during the decades as an official. In Zhang Yuesong's view, the house "is only a shelter from the wind and rain. Knee-friendly" is enough, no luxury required.
The other is located in the southwest of the former residence of the birth, with a courtyard-like structure. It is the Zhang's ancestral hall built by Zhang Yuesong when he was an official. Today, there are 1 main house, 1 rear house, and 2 lateral houses on both sides.
Now the mountain gate, the west wing of the front hall and the east corridor are all damaged, and the rest are still intact.
In Zhang's ancestral hall, there are also many banners, couplets, manuscripts and other handwriting relics displayed in Zhang Yuesong's handwriting.

What Zhang Dangquan talked about most was the culture of Zhang Yue’s filial piety and filial piety displayed to the world in Zhang’s ancestral hall.

Personal behavior, to the official side of foreign exchanges, set out the code, and hope that future generations will inherit a good family style.
"There is nothing more noble than learning Taoism, and the most joyous thing is reading", "purity, prudence, diligence, the way of being an official; talent, wisdom, courage, and a pragmatic attitude"... In Gaolin Village, there are also many Zhang families Quotations such as persuading students to study, being an official, and making friends were carved and displayed among the village roads, urging future generations to inherit good family traditions and family motto.

The descendants of Gaolin Village have lived up to the high expectations of their ancestors, and the village has produced many talents.
According to the records of "Ding'an County Chronicle", from the Daoguang year to the end of the Qing Dynasty, in addition to passing the jinshi examination and judging people, there were 11 people who were raised as tribute scholars.
Driven by the influence of good family traditions, the tradition of farming and reading family heirlooms, persuading students and teaching assistants has been passed down from generation to generation in Gaolin Village.
Every year, the Zhang Yuesong Education Foundation issues entrance scholarships to village middle school students. So far, nearly 600 students have received scholarships, many of them studying at Fudan University, Cambridge University and other well-known universities at home and abroad.
"As a descendant of Zhang Yuesong, I should carry forward his cultural heritage and let future generations learn from our ancestors." Zhang Dangquan said that every year about 20,000 scholars and tourists visit and learn about Zhang Yuesong's clean government culture and farming , Dexiao culture, the next step is to continue to inherit the Zhang Yuesong culture, drive the development of the local tourism industry with culture, and make the life of the villagers better.
