A panel discussion celebrating Emirati creatives on International Women's Day

The dialogue session “Emirati Creative Icon of Culture” was held with the participation of media and academic Dr. Hessa Lootah, academic Dr. Fatima Al Sayegh, founder and president of the Literary Forum Salon Asmaa Siddiq Al Mutawa, and management of poet and media figure Sheikha Al-Mutairi, yesterday evening, in celebration of International Women’s Day, and within the framework of the month’s activities. Reading organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth under the slogan “The Emirates is reading”.

The session focused on pioneering Emirati models and symbols who left a remarkable presence in the field of culture and creativity, becoming icons of it. Before introducing the participating guests, the poet and media figure Sheikha Al-Mutairi saluted all the women of the world and everyone who supports women and stands with them, aware of their real role in this world, pointing out the importance of Celebrating women in the national reading month, and what this parallel means of beauty and sophistication.

Media and academic Dr. Hessa Lootah recounted her scientific and media experience and the difficulties of joining the media work in the beginning, at a stage marked by many changes, and witnessed the courage and strength of women to participate in nation-building in all fields, pointing to the embrace and support of Emirati women by the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, stressing that strong women are role models for change in societies.

As for Dr. Fatima Al-Sayegh, she directed her appreciation to all the women of the world, noting that she loved history since her childhood because of her passion for antiquities, sites and historical figures, and that she and the daughters of her generation would not have been able to break many customs and traditions without the support of the wise leadership with grants and travel to study in prestigious international universities, and that she was the first A woman who studies history in the country, noting the lack of historical sources with Emirati self and values, and thus she was able to write her first book entitled “The United Arab Emirates from the Tribe to the State.”

It is noteworthy that the Month of Reading is an annual event held in March of each year, in which various governmental and private institutions, educational and cultural institutions participate, through initiatives and programs that contribute to building a reading community, armed with science and knowledge, capable of leading the development process, and one of the most important national goals of this initiative. By 2026, reading becomes an ingrained behavior for 50% of Emirati adults and 80% of schoolchildren;

And that the student reads an average of 20 books annually on an optional basis. The strategy also aims that the percentage of citizen parents who read to their children should not be less than 50%.
