One of the flagship projects of the 2024 Olympics in Marseille will not happen.

The town hall of Marseille has decided to abandon the project to build a temporary 5,000-seat stand on the Corniche, to offer a breathtaking view of the sailing events of the 2024 Olympics. As

explains , Samia Ghali , deputy mayor in charge of major equipment, made this choice because of "doubt" about safety.

Risk of attack

It would be much too dangerous to pass cars or buses under such a stand because of the risk of an attack, with the obligation to clear it every day, just as it would be too complicated to divert traffic from the Corniche for two weeks.

This request for modification has been submitted to the IOC in coordination with the State and the Prefect of Police, and an alternative solution is being studied.

The initial project called for the grandstand to extend from the NH hotel to the monument of returnees from Africa.

"There is enough space for people to follow the regattas in the best conditions", tries to reassure Samia Ghali.

But just over two years from the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the town hall of Marseille and the organization will have to very quickly find an alternative solution.
