• Last September, during his presentation of the “Marseille en grand” Plan, Emmanuel Macron announced his desire to experiment with the free recruitment of teachers for 50 laboratory schools.

  • This idea is not unanimous, but is in the process of being deployed and 59 candidate schools have been selected to experiment with it.

It was the big surprise of the announcements of Emmanuel Macron's "Marseille en grand" plan in September.

The laboratory schools of Marseille wanted by President Macron are still not unanimous, both in the choice of establishments and in the implementation of projects, and still raise many questions, according to the unions questioned.

In addition to the 400 million euros promised to renovate the schools, the Head of State had shown his desire to make some fifty Marseille schools "a laboratory of freedom and means" from September 2022. In a list unveiled by

La Provence

, 59 schools were selected, out of the 64 applications submitted according to the rectorate (the city has 470 primary schools).

Strong inter-union mobilization

Surprise: according to the unions, 26 are not part of the reinforced priority education network (Rep +).

But the academic inspection ensures that all "are located in neighborhoods where the social index is low and therefore with high educational and social needs".

“The lack of applications is explained by the strong inter-union mobilization against the project: many of the schools targeted boycotted the call of the academy, which had to multiply the calls to find candidates”, assures Virginie Akliouat, secretary general. of the SNUipp-FSU 13.

The teachers' unions especially denounce the "recruitment" aspect of Emmanuel Macron's project, which provides that the school principal - a teacher without hierarchical prerogative - chooses the teaching team.

Visiting Marseille in mid-February, Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer announced that "a good part of the teachers in these establishments wanted to stay".

According to non-final figures from the school inspectorate released on Monday, thirty additional teachers will also be assigned to these schools.
