One hundred and eight buildings in Seine-Saint-Denis will now bear the name of a woman.

The first to be renamed is the Bobigny Departmental Labor Exchange, which on March 8 will take the name of the initiator of International Women's Rights Day, Clara Zetkin, who died in 1933. By 2024, 107 other places will be renamed and their name will be proposed to local elected officials, to teams of professionals working in these buildings as well as to users in the case of parks.

The names of prominent figures such as Simone Veil or the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo may be chosen.

The objective of this project is to reiterate “to what extent the visibility of women is a major issue of equality”, explains Stéphane Troussel, the president of the department of Seine-Saint-Denis.

The community has already made it a principle in 2010 to give the name of a woman to each new college inaugurated or rebuilt.
