In semifinal one, it was the evening's most glamorous star (the trench coat she wore on stage consists of 42 meters of fabric), Tone Sekelius and the contribution "My way" and Anna Bergendahl's deep "Higher power" that snagged the final places.

Anna Bergendahl was moved to say the least and Tone looked overjoyed.

In the second semi-final, it was Theoz with his swinging "Som du vill" and Cazzi Opeia's happy pop song "I Can't get enough" that went on to the final.

Theoz was shocked to say the least and Cazzi Opeia shed a few tears of joy.

Premiere of the Semifinal

Everyone who put the coffee in their throats when the Swedish media flashed that the Melodifestivalen is being redone got to see the result tonight.

The very first Semifinal took place, formerly known as Second Chance.

The biggest difference is that the Second Chance consisted of four duels.

Now the eight entries were divided into two groups (semifinals 1 and 2), where two entries from each group went on to the final.

The only downside was that they barely had time to rejoice over the winners of the first semifinal before the second started.

You almost had time to forget the winners, but maybe that's the point?

More than just self-love

As always, Mello is all about Mello, pushing himself and loving himself.

Sometimes it may be too internal or boring for new viewers who missed a song from an old competition.

But tonight it was done really nicely when four new artists were elected to the Melodifestivalen's Hall of Fame.

The music historical significance of the melody festival was emphasized.

That Peter Himmelstrand was the one who introduced the competition for pop in Swedish in the 60s, that Eva Dahlgren in the 70s played melodic guitar pop and that Arja Saijonmaa in the 80s got a cross-generational hit.

In the 90's, Loa Falkman challenged the more conservative genre style in Mello with opera pop.

The contributions have once been a norm-breaker and perhaps that is the reason why the music competition today can actually be seen as the whole of Sweden's folk festival.

I mean just look at the genre mix!

Then the tribute to Peter Himmelstand was very nice with Lionman performing "Everyone has forgotten".

And to see Arja Saijonmaa run "High above the sea" on stage was definitely a big plus, because who is more charming than her?

Shout out to the dancers

I just have to give a shout out to the dancers.

They have delivered sub-competition, after sub-competition, midnight after midnight.

They have had more changes of clothes than the presenters and practiced several different choreographies and dance styles.

The artists in all glory but I can not help but be impressed by the dancers' fantastic work this year.
