The International Federation of Publishers Academy kicks off March 7th

Next Monday, the International Federation of Publishers will launch the “International Federation of Publishers Academy” under the auspices of the Sharjah Book Authority, which will provide a series of dialogues, discussions and specialized courses on issues of book industry, publishing and marketing, presented by a number of active partners, which serves publishers at the global level and allows them to contribute to Develop their industry and enhance its competitiveness.

The Federation revealed that all training materials in the Academy will be available free of charge to all national federations that are members of the International Publishing Federation and all publishers who are members of those federations.

The launch of the Academy came thanks to the efforts of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, as part of the union’s directions in reducing the negative effects of the “Covid-19” pandemic on the publishing industry, and to enable workers in the industry to face challenges, develop their skills and develop their capabilities to better benefit from opportunities available.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi said: “Over the past two years, I have spoken directly to more than 150 senior executives in the publishing ecosystem, which includes publishing houses, distributors, writers, educators, book fair managers, and advocates of culture and freedom of expression, in more than 40 countries, and the common topic that emerged during those discussions was the urgent need to develop the skills of the workforce in the publishing industry and enable it to adapt to the rapid technological and digital development that imposed itself due to the repercussions of the “Corona” crisis, so the International Federation of Publishers Academy came to target the union members, and publishers who represent them, and I look forward to their interaction with the Academy to benefit from it.”

For his part, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri said: “The International Federation of Publishers Academy is expected to bring about a fundamental change in the global book industry, and based on its role in promoting growth through knowledge and learning, and providing development opportunities for publishers’ businesses, the Sharjah Book Authority is honored By concluding this strategic partnership with the International Publishers Association to help find solutions to the existing and future challenges facing the publishing industry, and emphasizing the importance of strengthening teamwork with the concerned authorities in the publishing sector to ensure the resilience, growth and sustainability of this sector, in line with Sharjah’s commitment to enriching the book industry within its cultural project.

The International Federation of Publishers established its academy to support publishers and their associations and ensure adaptation to the changes caused by the Corona virus, as the success of publishers depends on their ability to deal with the digital space, starting with publishing e-books, promoting e-commerce, integrating easy and digital works in their work, and ending with marketing through social media. To this end, the IPA Academy offers a range of educational resources in areas that meet the interests of publishers, and all IPA members, and the publishers they represent, can use and benefit from these resources free of charge.
