A pair of wolves has settled south of Leipzig.

The animals can be seen on recordings of a wildlife camera in the Colditzer Forest near Frohburg (Leipzig district), as the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) announced on Thursday.

Genetic samples from sheep killed in Kohren-Salis near Frohburg also proved that a pair of wolves were out and about there.

According to the information, it is still unclear where the two animals come from.

They could not be assigned to any previously known pairing in Germany or neighboring countries.

Since it is currently the mating season for wolves, there could be puppies in the spring.

The Wolf Department called on animal owners in the region to review protective measures.

Saxony therefore assumes the costs for the protection of sheep, goats, enclosure and dam game.
