The massacre of Porsche, Audi and Bentley cars near Portugal

A Portuguese port official said that a ship carrying thousands of luxury cars, such as Porsche, Audi and Bentley, sank on Tuesday, about two weeks after it caught fire, off the coast of the Portuguese Azores.

Joao Mendes Cabicas, head of the nearest port on the Azorean island of Faial, told Reuters that the Panama-flagged ship Felicity Ace sank when efforts began to tow it, due to hull problems caused by the fire and high waves.

The ship, carrying about 4,000 different Volkswagen cars from Germany to the United States, caught fire on February 16.

The 22 crew members were evacuated on the same day.
