• On Monday, health restrictions were eased, including the end of the compulsory wearing of masks in places open to the public subject to the vaccination pass.

  • For some employees of bars and restaurants in Nice, the end of this measure is "a relief".

  • Others are mainly waiting for the end of the vaccination pass.

Since Monday, wearing a mask is no longer compulsory in places open to the public subject to the vaccination pass.

Thus, in cinemas, sports halls but also in bars and restaurants, customers and employees can drop the mask.

It had become mandatory since September 1, 2020. On the Côte d'Azur, some waiters and waitresses are "relieved" when others are mainly waiting for "the end of the vaccination pass quite simply".

In the center of Nice, a client of Popote d'Ondine arrives holding her mask with her fingertips with a broad smile.

"People are happy when they are told that they can remove their mask if they have the vaccination pass," says Zoé, who has worked in this café-restaurant for two years and who has therefore always been masked.

They all have the same reaction!

And then, it's funny because there are some regulars that I didn't even recognize without a mask.

“It changes the relationship with the customer”

She too is delighted: “It's been two days since I got home, I no longer have a headache and this bar on my forehead.

We wore the mask for eight or nine hours.

His colleague Laura adds: “We can finally breathe, we are less hot and we no longer have dry lips and throats.

We simply feel freer!

“It's also much better for understanding and being understood.

Finally, we do a very human job so we need this facial communication.

It completely changes our relationship with the customer!

remarks Zoe.

In Old Nice, on the Place du Palais de Justice, Sérine, waitress at Lou Pastrouil for six months, agrees and cites the advantages of the end of this health restriction.

“We are better at talking.

We can do our service better.

Generally speaking, we are more efficient.

And then, we can see our smile.

And thanks to that, we have more tips!

“, she says, laughing.

“It will change something when it is the end of the vaccination pass”

A few meters further, at Wayne's bar, Rebecca admits that she "choked a little" with this mask even if "in the work, it doesn't change much".

“We're less awkward because we can see our feet,” she exclaims behind the counter.

Before continuing: “It will really change something when it is the end of the vaccination pass.

We waste a lot of time with this measure.

On the Cours Saleya, same observation.

Between two courses, two waiters from Flore blurt out: “It's just the mask!

“Of course it's a good point for the summer because it was complicated with the heat but what we would especially like is the end of the pass checks.

It's a colossal workload that has been imposed on us… but not at all calculated.

At the other end of this street, at the Blast, the bar manager concludes: “It doesn't change my life.

In the kitchens, they wore it or not, it depends.

Same for the others in the room.

As long as it was visible, that was the most important thing, no matter how badly worn it was.

And now, customers as servers, everyone has already forgotten!

Let's move on to something else.

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, envisaged on February 16 the end of the wearing of the mask indoors for everyone, as well as a reduction in the vaccination pass, if the circulation of the virus remains “very weak”.

According to the latest figures published Thursday by Public Health France, the incidence rate was 604 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the Alpes-Maritimes.

A little over a month ago, in mid-January, it stood at 3,360 people

per 100,000 inhabitants.
