A publishing house dedicated to the societal issues of queer and feminist culture.

The novelist Virginie Despentes, to whom we owe the successful trilogy

Vernon Subutex

,

Apocalypse Bébé

,

King Kong Theorie

 or

Baise-moi

, is launching a publishing house this fall to "promote the representation and visibility of queer culture and feminist”, she announced this Monday to the magazine

Livres Hebdo

.

Called La Légende Editions, this publishing house, created with photographer and videographer Axelle Le Dauphin, will publish nine titles a year.

The first book will be dedicated to the Pulp, a mythical Parisian lesbian club which closed its doors in 2007.

"The fight against sexism"

La Légende Éditions will work "on the deconstruction of gender stereotypes and the fight against sexism", according to the weekly, with the creation of "a collective for research, defense, archiving and dissemination of art and queer and feminist culture”.

An initiative that comes after the writer and filmmaker expressed concern in the columns of

Liberation

in January of the takeover bid launched by the Bolloré group on Lagardère, which notably controls Hachette Livre.

"It's very easy to make authors disappear," she warned.

And to explain: “If Bolloré places a type of extreme right at the head of the publishing houses that he buys, everything that has been written previously belongs to Vincent Bolloré.

And part of the catalog can be erased by pure ideology: gender studies, feminist and anti-racist essays, philosophy… Seeing books buried alive is an intolerable idea!
