Disney, Sony and Warner go to war against Russia.
While the fighting is raging in Ukraine and in particular in Kiev, the capital, the film studios have decided, at the same time, to cancel the releases of their blockbusters in the country of Vladimir Putin.
“Due to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is suspending the release of its feature film
The Batman
in Russia,” a spokesperson for the studio announced in a press release, relayed by the BBC.
Disney has been more radical: the releases of all of its films are suspended until further notice in Russia.
Red Alert
, the new film from Pixar animation studios, was due to be released soon.
Same price on the Sony side.
The Marvel movie
Morbius
, in which Jared Leto plays a vampire antihero, will also not be released in Russia.
Social networks limit access to Russian media
Netflix, for its part, did not go so far as to block the viewing of its platform, but indicated that it was out of the question to accede to the request of the government of Vladimir Putin.
The latter requires that government-approved channels be offered on the streaming service.
Finally, again according to the BBC, Twitter, Facebook/Meta and Google have announced that they will do their utmost to limit access to Russian state-affiliated news outlets.
Google and Facebook have also undertaken to limit or even block access to the Russia Today and Sputnik channels on European territory.
