The ban on "firefly squid fishing", which announces the arrival of spring in Toyama Bay, was lifted on March 1, and firefly squids that emit a fantastic pale light were landed one after another.

"Firefly squid fishing" in Toyama Prefecture will be lifted on March 1st every year.



At Namerikawa Fishing Port, which has a large amount of landing in the prefecture, six large and small fishing boats departed for the set net set offshore around 4 am before dawn.



Upon arriving at the set net, the fishermen cooperated to pull up the net, and a firefly squid with a length of several centimeters that gave off a fantastic pale light appeared.



Fishing on the morning of the day ended in about an hour and a half, and according to the local fishermen's association, the total amount of landing on the first day was 50 kg, and it was traded for about 4000 to 5000 yen per kilogram.



According to the Prefectural Fisheries Research Institute, the amount of firefly squid landed in the prefecture as a whole is 1351 tons in normal years, which is expected to be slightly lower than normal this season.
