An association from Sisteron (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) wants to bring Ukrainian refugees to the department.

Nicole Cadenel, president of the Friends of Children of the Rivne region (Ukraine), told BFM TV that she was in contact with “nearly 200 people in difficulty” fleeing the war in their country.

She has been working on setting up a convoy since Thursday.

Homes for Ukrainians

The first refugees could arrive as early as next week.

The person in charge, at the head of the association for twelve years, is looking for inhabitants of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence wanting to welcome Ukrainians.

Volunteers can make themselves known on labastidaurore@orange.fr or on 06 74 44 34 03.

Nicole Cadenel also requested financial assistance from the French government and the Ukrainian consulate.

Until then, the Friends of Children of the Rivne region had worked to welcome disadvantaged Ukrainian children in France who had sometimes lost their parents, notably from the Chernobyl region (Ukraine).
