Notice to motorists traveling the roads of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: several private radar cars will be put into service from this Tuesday, March 1.

These unmarked vehicles, chosen from the best-selling models in France to blend in with traffic, will be able to flash drivers who are speeding on all types of lanes, reports France Bleu.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has just received 45 vehicles capable of controlling traffic in both directions and “up to three lanes to the left of the driver”, specifies the local radio.

Always in order not to be spotted, the radar cars will turn in the different departments of the region.

Control risk multiplied by 5

The prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Éric Spitz, assures us: it is to improve road safety figures that this system has been put in place.

The year 2021 was particularly deadly in the department with 41 people killed on the roads against 27 in 2020.

These radar cars, managed by a private company, will spend 5 times more time on the roads of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques than the law enforcement vehicles dedicated to these checks today.

Motorists are warned.
