Terpsychore or the lightness of being

by Roger Baillet, published on February 28, 2022 by Authors of books.

His favorite quote:

When nature has endowed us with the eyes of an eagle, the keenness of hearing of a cat, we are not aware, at least in childhood, of this superiority over others.

Why this book?

  • Because I had already had the opportunity to read

    the author's previous novel,

Vivaldi, or the evanescence of being

, and had been seduced by his pen and his historical references.

  • Because it is a poignant story that of Alba,

a young woman with atypical autism, with the incredible journey that the author makes us discover.

  • Because the references to history and dance are very numerous

and give a very touching poetic charm to this work.

  • Because it is a short reading but which guides us

towards a long journey which is none other than that of Alba, the main character.

  • Because Alba's story is inspired by a real life,

as the acknowledgments at the beginning of the book entrust.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

The title of the novel is a play on words in reference to one of the nine muses of Greek mythology Terpsychore.

We can therefore discover the story and journey of Alba, born in Syria.

A precocious and intelligent woman, passionate about poetry and science.

A story based on real life.

Characters.

 Alba, Marie-Madeleine, Marlene, Roxane, Jean-Paul...

Places.

Syria, Lyon, Saint-Petersburg, Paris, Spain… So much travel for this epic of Alba.

The time.

The author does not mention the time of the story but a clue during Alba's trip to Saint Petersburg can make us believe that the facts take place in the 1970s.

The author.

Roger Baillet was a professor at the University of Lyon III before embarking on a romantic career.

He has also published many novels such as

Vivaldi or the evanescence of being

.

This book was read

as a life lesson in view of the story of the central character.

It is also a mixture of poetry, suffering and ambition.

A real pleasure to read despite the fact that it is a short read.
