In a new trial about the October 2019 truck attack in Limburg, Hesse, the accused was sentenced to nine years in prison.

The Limburg district court thus confirmed its earlier judgment and also found the murder characteristic of insidiousness, as a spokesman said on Monday.

He is said to have deliberately hit several cars with a previously stolen truck that were stopping at a traffic light in downtown Limburg.

18 people were slightly injured.

In November 2020, the Limburg district court sentenced him to a total of nine years in prison for attempted murder in 18 cases and dangerous bodily harm and ordered his placement in a rehabilitation center.

At the time, the court saw the motive for the crime as a combination of an unsatisfactory living situation, private problems and cannabis consumption.

In fact, the man gave in to the impulse to draw attention to himself.

The guilty verdict was already final.

The accused appealed against the verdict at the Karlsruhe Federal Court of Justice, which partially overturned the verdict last July.

The guilty verdict for attempted murder remained in principle, but the murder characteristic of malice assumed by the district court was not proven.

The chamber now considered this criterion of murder to be fulfilled.
