Kuwait: An Arab resident takes advantage of the death of a European priest and seizes $ 5 million from his account

A resident of the State of Kuwait confiscated the amount of one and a half million dinars (about 5 million dollars), using a bank power of attorney entrusted to him by a European priest who died a year ago in his country.

In the details, according to what was reported by the local newspaper, Al-Rai, “the heirs of the priest who used to frequent Kuwait inquired and explored whether he had any bank accounts there, until they found out.”

Subsequently, the heirs went to the Kuwaiti authorities to find out the details of the bank account.

And the newspaper said, “After investigations by the concerned authorities, it was found that the European pastor had always visited Kuwait, and had opened a bank account in it according to a residence permit obtained in Kuwait, and the last visit by him was about a year and a half ago, as he died as a result of diseases he was suffering from.” .

She added, "In investigations, it was found that the amount deposited in the priest's account, estimated at one and a half million, was withdrawn about a year ago."

She indicated that "after investigating the identity of the money-drawer, a resident of Arab nationality was reached in Kuwait. The priest had been entrusted with following up his financial affairs, and under the agency, he was entitled to dispose of the account."

Investigations revealed that “the agent withdrew the money in installments from the priest’s account, so that the bank would not draw the attention of the bank to him, and was able to withdraw at least one and a half million dinars, leaving 200 thousand dinars in the account to remove doubts about him,” according to the same source.

The resident, who was found to have started living suddenly rich and owning bank balances during the past year, was tracked.

Accordingly, the accused agent was arrested and, confronting him in the investigations, he admitted that he had seized the amount of one and a half million dinars from the account of the priest, which he was entrusted with, after he learned of his death and did not take into account that his heirs search for his money in Kuwait.

The accused attorney said he had never dreamed of owning such wealth.

The accused was referred to the Public Prosecution, which ordered his detention pending investigations.
