The dress worn by Meghan Markle during her shock interview with Oprah Winfrey has been voted dress of the year by the Fashion Museum in the city of Bath.
As a reminder, the Duchess of Sussex wore a black silk dress signed Georgio Armani with a white lotus pattern.
But beyond the stylistic quality of the outfit, it is also its symbolic significance that justifies this choice.
“It is well known that members of the royal family often use clothing to send a message through cut, color and pattern,” the museum said in a statement.
A powerful symbol
“The Duchess was said to have chosen a dress with a lotus flower because this flower is associated with the symbolism of rebirth, self-regeneration and spiritual enlightenment, as well as its agility to bloom in apparently difficult conditions,” the statement also read.
Broadcast in March 2021, this interview had gathered no less than 60 million viewers across 70 countries.
From now on, visitors to the Fashion Museum in Bath will be able to admire a reproduction of this famous dress, the latest addition to an exhibition called
A History of Fashion in 100 Objects
