Dozens of people were injured in the accident of a coach from North Rhine-Westphalia in Upper Bavaria on Saturday morning - eleven of them seriously.

Several of those affected were taken to hospitals in the area by helicopter, according to the fire brigade and police.

Nobody was killed.

The bus with a total of 61 people - including children, adolescents and young adults - was therefore around 7.30 a.m. on the federal road 306 on the outskirts of Inzell (Traunstein district).

In addition to the eleven seriously injured, the fire brigade counted 21 people with minor to moderate injuries who were also taken to hospitals.

29 people were not injured or only minimally injured.

The bus company concerned comes from North Rhine-Westphalia.

According to the police, the relatives of the bus passengers should be informed about the responsible authorities there.

According to the fire brigade, the bus was on the way to a skiing holiday in Kaprun, the police spoke of the Chiemgau Alps as the destination.

Some of those affected were cared for in a nearby ice rink.

Based on the traces on site and initial interviews, the police assume that the bus left the road without any outside involvement and toppled down an embankment several meters high to the right.

The investigations were still ongoing.

On the instructions of the public prosecutor's office, an expert was consulted.

According to the fire department, hundreds of rescue workers from the region and six helicopters were on site.

The federal highway was completely closed.

Heavy equipment was brought in for the rescue.

The closure should last into the afternoon.
