The year 2021 has been particularly rich for French cinema.
The selection of the Césars demonstrates this and the voters must have had a hard time deciding between the nominees.
"20 Minutes" tried to guess which films could be awarded, according to three possible scenarios.
The year 2021 started late, but French cinema finally spoiled us with the quality and diversity of its 171 feature films released between May 19 and December 31, 2021. The list of César nominees proves it.
By the opening of the 47th ceremony presented by Antoine de Caunes, this Friday live, unencrypted on Canal + and on Europe 1 at 8:55 p.m., 4,363 professionals of the 7th Art will have chosen their favorites in 24 categories.

Some ultra-favorites are already emerging, such as the very spectacular
Sommet des Dieux
by Patrick Imbert as an animated feature film, Benoît Magimel as an actor for his moving role as a forty-something doomed by cancer in
De son vivant
by Emmanuelle Bercot, and the Japanese road-movie
Drive My Car
by Ryusuke Hamaguchi in foreign movie.
For the other, more open categories, three scenarios seem possible.
If voters have the same tastes as theater operators
Like every year, the Pro Ecran Total site questioned more than 2,000 cinema operators about their tastes.
Influential professionals, because they are close to the public.
If the voters of the Académie des César follow their opinion, it's
Lost Illusions
,
inspired by Balzac, who will win.
Xavier Giannoli's film is already the favorite with its 15 nominations, including Vincent Lacoste and Benjamin Voisin.
Other films that exhibitors are highlighting this year: Yann Gozlan's thriller
Boite Noire
with Pierre Niney, Cédric Gimenez's thriller
Bac Nord
with Gilles Lellouche and
Aline
, fake biopic of Celine Dion by and starring Valérie Lemercier.
The latter, named both among the best actresses and directors could well win the statuette of the interpreter and perhaps also that of the best music.
If voters have the same tastes as film festival juries
In this case, no doubt:
The Event
by Audrey Diwan will win the trophy, as at the International Press Lights ceremony and the Alice Guy prize.
The winner of the 2021 Golden Lion could also see his actress Anamaria Vartolomei rewarded as best female hope for her role as a young woman who wants an abortion in 1960s France. If the Academy wants to be bold, it will offer the statuette of the best direction to the intrepid Julia Ducournau for
Titane
, a delirium so divisive that it does not even compete for the title of best film… Leos Carax can also claim to win the best direction, as at Cannes and at the Lumières, even if we believe a little less in
Annette
's chances despite our enthusiasm for this film and for the Sparks soundtrack.
If voters decide to do as they please
Fortunately, the selection is beautiful and could promise surprises, if the Academy decides to follow its heart or to do as it pleases.
We could well see
Onoda
by Arthur Harari, already rewarded by the Syndicat français de la critique de cinéma and the Louis-Delluc prize, blowing the César for screenplay with his incredible (but true) story of a Japanese soldier who continued the war alone during thirty years in the jungle.
And
La Fracture
by Catherine Corsini, a social comedy in the hospital whose actress - and real caregiver - Aïssatou Diallo Sagna is a pure discovery, also glean some rewards...
In short, we expect suspense for this 47th Ceremony.
The only certainties, Isabelle Huppert will present a César of honor to Cate Blanchett and
20 Minutes
will be on deck to follow the award ceremony, live and behind the scenes and talk to the winners.
