After several documentaries on the Disneyland Paris park, RMC Story is broadcasting a report that focuses on the castle of "Sleeping Beauty", the emblematic symbol of the amusement park.

Its director Emilie Bruna explains to Europe 1 why this building deserved a report on it alone.

INTERVIEW

It is the most visited French site, before the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower or Mont-Saint-Michel.

For 30 years, the Disneyland Paris park has attracted more than 15 million visitors a year and continues to please as in its beginnings.

And this in particular thanks to the castle of

Sleeping Beauty

which sits in the middle.

It is to this emblematic pink and blue building 45 meters high that the RMC Story channel devotes a report on Thursday evening.

And contrary to rumors, this castle is far from being made of cardboard.

A castle "more important than Mickey Mouse"

"At Mat Productions, we had already produced several parts around the world of Disney and Disneyland Paris", explains to Europe 1 Emilie Bruna, the director of the documentary.

"And the producers had the idea of taking an interest in this castle from

Sleeping Beauty,

which is the emblem of Disney. For visitors, it's more than the castle in this cartoon, it's the castle of Disneyland Paris. It went beyond the tale itself."

"It is an icon that must be embellished, which must always attract more people. It must really be the mark of the park", adds the director.

"One of my interlocutors told me that it was even more important than Mickey Mouse! There is therefore this desire at Disney to preserve this enchantment and this magic. The enchanting side of the Parisian park is done through the prism of this Chateau."

40,000 gold leaves and 14 shades of pink

Last year, Disney teams took advantage of the park's closure to renovate the building.

With 11 months of work, 50,000 hours of work, and more than 40,000 gold leaves laid by hand, the castle of

Sleeping Beauty

has benefited from the same care as a historical monument.

Disneyland has also called on the artisans of the renovation of Notre-Dame de Paris.

"This castle is in fact a nod to our French culture", reveals Emilie Bruna.

"This is the challenge: to build a castle in the country of castles. Because France has 45,000 castles. The architects and designers of this castle are very renowned craftsmen. I had a priori about this castle, but while carrying out my investigation I realized that there had been real building materials. One could believe that it is an architecture of illusion, but in reality not.

The building is actually inspired by Chambord, Azay-le-Rideau and Ussé (the monument that inspired Charles Perrault to write this tale).

Among the manufacturing secrets of the castle revealed in this film, we learn for example that 14 shades of pink were used to visually enlarge the building.
