On February 24, archaeological staff were cleaning up the site of Jixia Academy.
After nearly five years of archaeological excavations by the Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the site group of buildings outside the west gate of the ancient city of Qi, located in the west of Xiaoxu Village, Qidu Town, Linzi District, Zibo City, Shandong Province, has been basically confirmed as the site of Jixia School.
According to historical records, Jixia Academy was founded in 374 BC. It was the world's first institution of higher learning in a special form that was officially organized and privately hosted, and contributed to the formation of a situation of "a hundred schools of thought contending" in the world's academic circles.
