Three Syrian soldiers were killed by Israeli strikes near Damascus on the night of Wednesday February 23 to Thursday February 24, the fourth such attack in February, the Syrian news agency Sana reported.

"The Israeli enemy carried out an aerial assault with several missiles" from north of Bouheira Tabaraya, targeting positions around Damascus around 1:10 a.m. (2310 GMT), "killing three soldiers and causing material damage", Sana said, adding that most of the missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defense.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) with a vast network of sources in Syria, reported explosions heard in Damascus and its suburbs "after the interception of Israeli missiles by the anti-aircraft defense of the Syrian regime".

4th raid in a month

It is the fourth time since the beginning of the month that Israel has bombed Syria, following strikes the day before on the town of Quneïtra, near the Golan Heights, on February 17 against a military post of the regime in the southern town of Zakiya. Damascus, and on February 9 against anti-aircraft batteries in response to a missile launch from Syria.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syrian territory, targeting positions of regime soldiers as well as Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces, which fight alongside the regime in Damascus.

The Jewish state has repeatedly said that it will not allow its enemy, Iran, to expand its influence in Syria.
