According to British media reports on February 22, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced sanctions on five Russian banks and three people, including Russian oligarch Timchenko.

All assets held by sanctioned individuals in the UK will be frozen and individuals will be barred from entering the UK, the report said.

As the situation in eastern Ukraine continues to heat up, the European Commission website issued a statement saying that it proposed to impose a package of sanctions on Russia.

The proposal specifically includes targeting individuals involved in recognizing the "independence" of Ukrainian and Eastern Ukrainians, and banks that provide funds for the Russian military and other operations in these areas.

Reuters quoted EU diplomats as saying that hundreds of politicians and officials may be blacklisted, and physical imports and exports in the Udong region will be banned.
