To escape his debts...the suicide of a worker whose company refused to give him an advance of 500 pounds

An Egyptian worker in a Universal company committed suicide to escape his accumulated debts, as he threw himself in front of a car on the regional road.

One of the company’s workers revealed to “Cairo 24” the details of the death of his colleague, Assem Afifi Abdel-Maboud, who works in the assembly department at Universal, saying: A few days before the accident, Assem asked the company for an advance of 500 pounds, and the management did not respond to him, which is its usual behavior with workers.

And he added: Two days before the accident, Asim taunted all his colleagues who had money, and told them that I have money forgive me, and that I am upset, I need to forgive me, without revealing his intention to commit suicide.

The worker, who preferred not to be named, explained that Assem has been working in the company for 15 years, and he is from the Bagour Center in Menoufia, and he is a father of 3 sons and a wife, and he is the eldest of his brothers and responsible for taking care of his family, and the company has stopped paying workers’ salaries and financial dues 3 years ago. Months.

The suicide worker left a message that included: Forgive me, I can no longer face the debtors or my family, after I became unable to pay my debts or support my family consisting of my wife and 3 children, the eldest of whom is not yet eight years old.

The worker revealed that the crisis began by delaying the salary for a period of up to 3 months without a clear reason, and when he spends it in installments or we get only half of it, in addition to the employer reducing the incentives from 600 pounds to 120 pounds, and since 4 months we have not received any incentives or bonuses .

Last September, Universal Company workers went on strike inside the company’s headquarters until they were paid their late wages, and the arrears of incentives they had not received since April of 2021, in addition to the nature and work hazards allowance that they had not received for more than 32 months, Without any response from management to their demands.
