• Conflict with the City Council Primavera Sound threatened to leave Barcelona in 2023 due to the lack of support from Colau

  • Spring 2022 Dua Lipa, The Strokes, Gorillaz, Lorde, Tyler The Creator and Nick Cave

The

Primavera Sound Festival

has announced that its 2023 edition will have two venues on two consecutive weekends.

First, it will be held in its traditional setting, the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona;

and, later, on June 8, 9 and 10, in the City of Rock in

Arganda del Rey

, in Madrid (a piece of land that has remained abandoned since Rock In Rio was held there a decade ago).

This duplication has been announced after Gabi Ruiz, the festival's director, threatened to take Primavera from Barcelona to Madrid last year,

irritated by the lack of collaboration from the Catalan authorities

.

The festival, one of the most important in terms of audience in Spain and in terms of international projection, will thus maintain its original headquarters in the Catalan capital and thus take a new leap, in addition to its venues in Portugal and the USA.

In the press release with which Primavera Sound has announced its plans for 2023 , it

has included a paragraph of courtesies for the Madrid administrations

: "From Primavera Sound we can only be grateful to the Community of Madrid, the Madrid City Council and to the City Council of Arganda del Rey for all the facilities and enthusiasm with which they have been and are working with us so that this edition that makes us so excited becomes a reality in 2023".

Primavera has also recalled that it has been present on Madrid's cultural agenda for years.

The capital of Spain was for several years one of the venues (also together with Barcelona) of its autumn festival,

the Primavera Club

.

Before the definitive landing in Madrid, Primavera Sound has an appointment with its spectators between

June 2 and 12, 2022

, when it celebrates its first edition at the Barcelona Forum after the suspensions of 2020 and 2021.

Dua Lipa

, Massive Attack, Gorillaz, Lorde, Beck, Tyler The Creator and Nick Cave will perform in Barcelona.

Primavera Sound has announced that the new edition will be "the most ambitious in its history".

Pavement, Tame Impala, The National, The Strokes, Jorja Smith, Interpol, Megan Thee Stallion, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Disclosure or Jamie XX are also included in the lineup.
