Research talks about the cause of 13 types of cancer

According to Cancer Research UK, “Strong scientific evidence shows that being overweight or obese increases the risk of 13 different types of cancer”, and the charity says that “obesity is the single largest preventable cause of cancer after smoking”.

How does obesity cause cancer?

Cancer Research UK explains: “Excess body fat is not only located there, it is active and sends signals to the rest of the body.

These signals can tell cells in our body to divide more often, which can lead to cancer.”

According to "Express" and "RT".

Signals from fat cells can affect:

• Growth hormones

Excessive intake of body fat can lead to elevated levels of growth hormones, leading to increased cell division.

This increases the chance of developing cancer cells.

• Inflammation

When there are more fat cells in the body, immune cells travel to the area, possibly to remove dead fat cells.

This can lead to inflammation, which causes cells to divide more quickly.

Over time, this can increase your risk of developing cancer.

• Sex hormones

After menopause fat cells secrete estrogen.

This can cause cells in the breast and uterus to divide more often, increasing the risk of cancer.

The term obesity describes a person who is obese, with a lot of body fat.

The most commonly used way to check if you are at a healthy weight is your body mass index (BMI), which is a measure of whether your weight is appropriate for your height.
