Coincidence of the calendar or not?

The Central African Republic opened an investigation yesterday

, points out

Le Monde Afrique

,

after the arrest the day before in Bangui of four legionnaires of the French army operating under the banner of the UN and accused on social networks of having wanted

" assassinate"

the Head of State, Faustin Archange Touadéra.

This announcement comes the same day that France and the United States accused before the Security Council the

 "mercenaries"

of the Russian private security company Wagner of having

 "executed"

and

"massacred"

dozens of civilians.

And to carry out a "systematic"

campaign

of

"terror"

in the Central African Republic where they fight the rebels alongside the regular army.

»

Internet flooded…

The “

images of their arrest were therefore broadcast on social networks

 ”: this is what

Le Journal de Bangui

points out in particular .

“

Images of the four arrested peacekeepers, their

'United Nations'  badges

and military gear flooded the internet last night via dozens of accounts across Africa.

These images were accompanied by the comment

"attempted assassination of the Central African president".

A version taken up by a reputable news site close to Russian interests in the Central African Republic, but denied by the French Embassy and Minusca.

 »

In fact, says

Le Journal de Bangui

, “

it is a rental vehicle, registered in the Central African Republic, which would have attracted the attention of the security services.

According to several sources, it was a temporary vehicle made available to the Minusca Chief of Staff, General Marchenoir, while waiting for an official car.

»

The four legionnaires had just escorted the officer to the airport when they were arrested.

And at the same time, President Touadera's plane landed from Brussels.

Trap?

In the press, one wonders, following the example of the daily newspaper

Today

 in Burkina Faso: “

Is this a trap set up by Wagner?

Where is the evidence ?

What act did these French legionnaires take to be arrested?

Is the temporary vehicle assigned to the Minusca Chief of Staff, who seemed suspicious at Bangui airport, enough to make this arrest?

Did these 4 French soldiers try to break into the security system of the airport as the social networks suggest?

In any case, the speed with which these arrests took place and the comment

"Attempted assassination of President Touadéra"

 which followed, leaves one wondering

.

»

shadow war

“

If the Central African authorities have not yet reacted officially to this event, perhaps fabricated from scratch, it must be recognized that this affair is bad for France  ”, points out the

WakatSéra

site for its part

.

France “

in full turmoil in the African countries which have fallen in love with Russia.

There is no doubt that the invisible, but well-known hand, pursuing a hidden purpose, but also known and which is not at its first blow, is already active for another blow, because the battle is tough and will be very long. between France and Russia who have chosen African soil as their arena.

A war that feeds on disinformation and instrumentalization, which have become weapons of mass destruction, even more dangerous than cannons

Are Wagner's mercenaries really effective?

And then to read in

Jeune Afrique

(JA)

this investigation on the Russian paramilitary group Wagner: “

Russia-Africa: are Wagner’s mercenaries really effective?

 »

In the Central African Republic, Wagner has certainly pushed back the rebellion

 ”

,

points

out Jeune Afrique

.

But “

we really have to put things into perspective

”, underlines a close friend of the CPC, the alliance of Central African armed groups, quoted by the site.

“

There were few fights.

The rebels retreated at the request of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The Russians took over towns, but most of them had been abandoned

 .”

(…) “

At the territorial level

, also summarizes a UN expert,

always quoted by JA,

we cannot deny that the Russians and the Central African army have reinvested in urban areas.

But they did not neutralize the armed groups, many of whom simply retreated

.

Above all, he adds, "there have been a lot of abuses against the civilian population, in particular Fulani".

»

So, “

what should we expect in Mali?

asks

JA

.

“

The armed movements that Wagner faced in the Central African Republic were not as well equipped and organized as the groups in the Sahel, warns a West African diplomatic source.

There is a risk of getting bogged down for Wagner but, for Moscow, the gains are already there: the French have accelerated their departure from Mali
