Kuwait.. Imprisonment of an Arab expatriate who forged Kuwaiti citizenship since he was 14 years old

The Court of Appeals in Kuwait sentenced a Syrian expatriate to 7 years in prison and fined him 230,000 dinars for forging citizenship and impersonating a Kuwaiti after being added by forgery in a citizen’s file and benefiting from financial benefits.

In one of the strangest cases of forgery of nationality, investigations by the Nationality Investigation revealed that the accused was of Syrian nationality and was added to the file of a citizen when the accused was 14 years old, and since that time he has benefited from Kuwaiti nationality and its financial benefits through employment and marriage.

According to Al-Qabas newspaper.

After the accused was arrested and interrogated, it was found that he had obtained Kuwaiti citizenship by forgery, and he was referred to the court with his father, his Syrian brother and the citizen.

While the Criminal Court ruled to imprison the defendants for 7 years, the Court of Appeal decided to suspend the trial of the Syrian citizen and father until they opposed the verdict in absentia, and upheld the imprisonment of the forged Syrian for 7 years, and acquitted his brother of the charge of harboring and covering up a fugitive accused.

The court referred to the value of the amounts mentioned in the ruling, which included rent allowance, loans and financial benefits, and excluded salaries because they are considered wages for work regardless of whether the employee is a forger of citizenship or not.
