China News Service, February 22. According to Hong Kong's "Wen Wei Po" report, Chu Yuan (formerly known as Zhang Baojian), a famous Hong Kong director and actor who came from a family of films, passed away on the 21st at the age of 87.

  Tian Qiwen, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Film Workers Federation, revealed: "(Yesterday) at noon, I passed very peacefully. My family was by my side. (He) was a little uncomfortable in the morning and left after being sent to the hospital two hours later."

  Chu Yuan's father is the famous actor Zhang Huoyou.

Under the influence of his father, Chu Yuan devoted himself to the work of film screenwriting as early as 1956, under the pseudonym Qin Yu, alias "Zhang Baozai".

In 1958, he assisted Qin Jian, a famous director at the time, in the filming of "The Autumn of Crape Myrtle Garden"; in the same year, he started filming "Lakeside Grass" as a self-director.

  In 1973, Chu Yuan adapted the play into a Shaw Brothers comedy "The Seventy-Two Tenants". The film broke the Hong Kong box office record and became the Hong Kong box office champion of that year.

  What Chu Yuan is most talked about is the adaptation of Gulong's martial arts novels into a series of martial arts films since 1976, such as "Affectionate Swordsman Ruthless Sword", "Three Young Masters Sword", "Meteor·Butterfly·Sword" and "End of the World·Mingyue·Knife". "Chu Liuxiang" and so on.

  Chu Yuan also performed TV dramas later, the most impressive is the TVB drama "Kara House Enterprise".

After quitting the entertainment industry, he lived a reclusive life, only seeing Shaw Brothers friends.

The most recent appearance was in 2018 when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards.

  Chu Yuan's wife is actor Nan Hong. The two have been married for more than 50 years and are regarded as a model in the entertainment industry.
