What happens in the body if magnesium levels decrease?

Well and Good has published a report on the role of magnesium in supporting muscles, nerves, energy levels, and brain function.

The health website said that a person can get magnesium through supplementation, but it is not necessary for most people, as it is commonly found in many healthy foods.

But low magnesium stores can be caused by common chronic diseases, such as high blood sugar levels or type 2 diabetes, many medications and antacids or some diuretics for blood pressure as they deplete high levels of magnesium. Fat is common with age, there is a residual risk of blood sugar problems that could develop as a result, which in turn can increase our need for magnesium.

According to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), the site recommends that the recommended amount of magnesium is 310 to 320 mg for adult women and 400 to 420 mg for adult men.

The site advised to eat more foods that are high in magnesium, such as whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and green leafy vegetables.
