The US authorities are investigating the crash of a helicopter carrying three passengers in the Atlantic Ocean near beachgoers in Miami Beach, Florida, USA.

The US Federal Aviation Administration said the plane plunged into the ocean near a crowded beach at 1.20 pm local time on Saturday, and the agency is investigating the cause of the accident with the National Transportation Safety Board.

Miami Beach police and fire departments rushed to the scene and said on Twitter that two passengers had been taken to a local hospital "in stable condition."

Video footage showed the helicopter crashing into the water in an area teeming with swimmers.
