It had been under construction since 1992 and finally the longest trail in the world is already a reality.

It's called the

Trans Canada Trail

and it runs through the North American country from coast to coast along 28,000 kilometers of forests, rivers, bridges, highways,

cities, towns, lakes, mountains,

tundras, parks... The list of landscapes is endless, as well as the ways to get to know it, since it can be crossed on foot, by bicycle, canoe, on horseback, trekking... Even

skiing,

since many of its parts are completely covered with snow when winter arrives.

One of the best ways to travel the trail is by bike.

The Trans Canada Trail has only recently completed its

final extension

, but it had been a reality since 2017 when it opened.

Even so, it has not been until now that its offer has been completed with a total of

400 old trails.

To get an idea, the complete itinerary would be equivalent to doing the Camino Frances de Santiago 30 times, the most famous route of the oldest pilgrimage in the world.

In addition, the

signage

of each of its sections has also been completed.

The different official administrations responsible for the more than

15,000 rural and indigenous communities

that the trail crosses have participated in it, without forgetting big cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa.

The path can also be discovered skiing.

We must add the number of emblematic points of the country such as the Rocky Mountains, Lakes Michigan or Ontario.

Another fact: wherever you are in Canada, four out of five of the country's inhabitants will have a section available

no more than 30 minutes from home

.

In addition, for tourists who are interested, most of the airports are easily connected to one of the stages of the path.

It must be remembered that

24,000 of the kilometers run on land

, while the rest do so through lakes or rivers.

The trail crosses Canada for 28,000 kilometers.

The objective with which it was born is none other than to communicate people and landscapes, encouraging them to carry out their routes in the air and face a

sedentary lifestyle.

Another purpose is to protect the

environment

, since the use of motorized vehicles (with the exception of snowmobiles) is prohibited on each of the roads that make up this great route in the middle of nature.

In addition, the 28,000 kilometers have a network of

information points, shelters,

drinking water sources or places to rent all kinds of necessary material.

From skis (if you want to go through the snow) to comfortable shoes,

bicycles or even canoes.

Runners are heavy users of the trail.

On the other hand, the Trans Canada Rail website also offers an interactive map to select the parts you want to travel.

In addition, one can download an

application on the mobile phone

in which other users tell their experiences, so that they can advise other travelers with photos and texts.
