The search for truffles, this mushroom highly prized by gourmets, is a passion Daniel has devoted himself to since adolescence.

But this retired farmer does not practice alone: he raised and trained two sows which, with a highly developed sense of smell, unearth truffles sometimes buried several centimeters underground.

Today, it's Rosalie who sticks to it.

Daniel first taught her “to eat truffles, so that she gets used to their taste and smell, then to look for them without eating them”.

A bit greedy, the naughty sometimes gobbles one up, "but she's cute, all the same", smiles Daniel, who doesn't hold it against her.

A sometimes very high selling price

It must be said that the harvest is quite good: "1.8 kg at the end of the season, it's a good result", rejoices the Charentais.

Especially since the truffle, which is nicknamed the "black diamond of gastronomy", sells for between 600 and 1,200 euros per kilo!

At this price, Rosalie and Daniel are not about to end their outings.

At least, underlines the latter, “not as long as I am able to walk behind my sow”.

Accompany them during a "harvest" in this video from our partner Brut.
