Oscar winner and multiple BAFTA winner, winner of the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals, actor Benicio Del Toro is celebrating his 55th birthday. A Puerto Rican with Catalan and Basque roots, Del Toro moved to California after high school. He began to study entrepreneurship at the University of San Diego, but soon lost interest in studies and began to play in the theater and try out for films. With a 1987 cameo appearance on the hit television series Miami Vice, Del Toro made sure he was on the right track. The role of Dr. Gonzo in the 1998 cult film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" brought the artist worldwide fame, and the films "21 Grams" (2003), "Che" (2008) and "Jimmy Picard" (2013) strengthened his status as one of America's leading dramatic actors.
