In Abashiri City, Hokkaido, which is approaching the tourist season of drift ice, a diver of the Japan Coast Guard conducted rescue training assuming that tourists fell into the sea.

The rescue training held at Abashiri Port on the 17th was conducted on the assumption that tourists fell into the sea covered with drift ice, and six divers from the Kushiro Coast Guard patrol boat "Erimo" participated. ..

During the training, the divers entered an ice-covered sea with a water temperature of 0.5 degrees and a thickness of about 30 cm.

Then, when he found a diver who looked like a rescuer floating on the ice, he wore an oxygen mask and swam in the water to a large area where he could be rescued.

Mr. Shodake Magada, a diver, said, "I am careful because drift ice can move and get caught in the waves."

The 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters recommends that you do not ride on the drift ice that is berthed without a tourist guide.
