A huge cloud of smoke over Munich startled passers-by in the city on Friday.

As the fire brigade announced, the fire in a warehouse in the Freimann district was the cause.

The fire is now under control but not yet extinguished, said a spokesman for the Munich fire department on Friday afternoon.

His colleagues could not enter the hall because of the danger of collapsing, so the entire roof structure had to be opened with a crane and the fire extinguished from above.

That is a bit complicated: "It will take a long time," said the spokesman.

People were not in danger and were not injured.

One person was briefly checked, but did not need treatment.

The police and fire brigade were initially unable to say what was stored in the hall.

However, nothing is known about dangerous goods.
