Before dawn on the 18th, a fire broke out in a house in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, and two men and women were taken to the hospital but died.

Police are rushing to confirm the identity of the couple in their 70s who live in this house and are investigating the cause of the fire.

Around 1:40 am on the 18th, a snow remover who passed by reported to the fire department that "a fire is coming out of the window on the first floor" at a house in Kita 42 Johigashi 13-chome, Higashi-ku, Sapporo.



Twenty-three fire trucks were dispatched and the fire was almost extinguished after about three hours, but about 100 square meters of a two-story house was burned down.



According to police, the fire rescued two men and women from the house and took them to the hospital, both of which were later confirmed dead.



Police have lost contact with the couple in their 70s who live in the house after the fire, so the two who died are rushing to confirm their identities as the couple and investigating the cause of the fire.



The site is a corner of a residential area about 400 meters west of Sakaemachi Station on the Toho Subway Line.
