For a bachelor's degree, a BTS or higher education… Climatologist Jean Jouzel wants to integrate the ecological transition into all study courses at bac +2 level or higher.

This proposal appears in his report submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education on Wednesday, report our colleagues from

Le Monde

.

Heavy at 90 pages, the document considers that “all training courses, from all sectors and at all levels, must mobilize to transmit the knowledge and skills useful for the ecological transition”.

The former vice-president of the IPCC, who had already made his first recommendation to Barbara Pompili in July 2020, proposes to set up a “transitional phase” during which six European teaching credits “could be systematically reserved for the ecological transition ".

And this, regardless of whether the student is trained in psychology, political science or mathematics.

Funding and recruitment

In the constellation of issues related to the ecological transition, the Jouzel report dwells on four pillars which should be an integral part of this new teaching: the impact of human activities on the environment on the scale of the Earth, the impact of human activities at the local level, the associated social and governance issues and possible reactions.

The government is also encouraged to work hand in hand with Pôle Emploi to set up higher and certifying training on the issues of ecological transition.

It remains to be seen whether the executive will follow this roadmap, which cannot be done without funding and recruitment in French universities.
