Because a man keeps a mini-pig in his rented apartment in Hanover, his landlady wanted to get rid of him with an eviction action.

The civil department of the district court of the Lower Saxony state capital dealt with the case on Thursday.

The legal dispute ended after a short hearing with a settlement.

The 38-year-old agreed to vacate the 35-square-meter apartment and his pig named Bruce by the end of August at the latest.

In addition, he must bear 60 percent of the costs of the procedure, the plaintiff 40 percent.

The value in dispute was 5100 euros – these were twelve net cold rents.

The landlady had given several reasons for the termination - but the main reason was the unusual pet that he had illegally acquired, as became clear in the courtroom.

In total, she served three notices of termination to the tenant.

Reasons were also that the man had damaged two doors, used a fenced part of the yard as a terrace and that his girlfriend lived in the apartment without permission.

As the judge argued, the pig's owner saw no reason to terminate the contract.

According to his statement, he had informed the property management about the new pet.

Residents of other apartments in the house would have dogs of the same size.

Meanwhile, the dark gray Bruce is about knee-high and has a lot of flab on his ribs.

The keeper also claimed that he was 80 percent severely disabled and that his pig also had therapeutic purposes.
