In an interview with France 24, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged the administration of US President Joe Biden to reverse his decision to allocate half of frozen Afghan assets in the United States to families of the September 11 attacks.

Our guest said that this money belongs to the Afghan people and that it is unfair to spend it for other purposes.

The former president also said that before international recognition of the Taliban, Afghans from all walks of life needed to come together and form a consensual government.

Hamid Karzai and former director general Abdullah Abdullah had also officially asked the Taliban to convene a "loya Jirga", a traditional assembly, and that they still hoped that would happen.

The former head of state is also hopeful that girls will return fully to school and women to workplaces when they reopen next month.

He recalls that he negotiated a peaceful transition mechanism with the Taliban and then-President Ashraf Ghani, which collapsed when the latter fled the country.
