Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, February 15 (Reporters Zhu Xiao, Lu Huadong) The reporter learned from the Lianyungang City Museum in Jiangsu Province that a Tang Dynasty building foundation was found in Haizhou District of the city. Its plane is rectangular and covers an area of 1475.72 square meters. .

The remains unearthed by archaeological excavations show that the foundation of the building is a courtyard with two entrances facing south. There are 21 relic units preserved from south to north, including steps, doorways, courtyards, wells, Yong Roads, corridors, and platforms. , scattered water, pillar holes, toilets, 1 concierge, 5 east and west wing rooms, and 5 north main rooms.

According to the archaeologists, no relics with a clear age were found in the foundation site of the excavation. The archaeologists preliminarily inferred the age based on their shape, the characteristics of the unearthed artifacts and the relationship between the layers, and combined with the archaeological investigation of the cultural remains of the same period in Lianyungang over the years. , excavation results and sorting out historical documents, to make judgments on the age and nature of the building site.

Based on this, it is speculated that the construction of the foundation site of the building was roughly in the prosperous and mid-Tang Dynasty, and the era of abandonment was roughly in the late Tang and Five Dynasties.

The foundation site of the Tang Dynasty buildings discovered this time may provide clues for finding the "Hailongwang Temple" in the Tang Dynasty.

During the Tang Dynasty, the Japanese eminent monk Yuanren once passed through Haizhou three times. In his book "Journey to the Tang Dynasty to Seek the Law", there is a record about the "Hailongwang Temple".

Based on historical records, the "Hailongwang Temple" mentioned in the book is basically consistent with the view and duration of the foundation site of the excavation.

From September to December 2021, in order to cooperate with the capital construction of the second phase of the Lianyungang Haizhou Gymnasium Project, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Xuzhou Museum and Lianyungang Museum will jointly carry out cooperative archaeological excavation of the ancient cultural relics in the project plot.
